The range solves a specific class of problem: the mechanical fault that would normally mean disassembly. A blown head gasket. A rear main seal weeping oil onto the driveway. A cooling system so scaled up the engine runs hot in traffic. Diesel bug turning your fuel to sludge. In each case there's a chemical route to the fix that costs a fraction of the mechanical one.

That approach only works if someone tells you honestly when it won't work. A seal that is cracked, ripped or torn is a mechanical failure and no additive will fix it. We'll say so on the phone rather than sell you a can.
