In the early stages of a leak, there may just be an oily sheen on top of the coolant. But if these symptom go unnoticed, which they quite often do, then the oil will continue to build up into a thick sludge, causing the vehicle to eventually overheat.

Of course the damage that caused the problem first needs to be repaired, and then the oil/coolant sludge removed from the cooling system. Flushing the sludge from the cooling system is not easily done, in fact it’s normally a very difficult and time consuming task even for a professional. Most attempts at removing this sludge have included the use of strong detergents, and even solvent or caustic based degreasers, plus all sorts of general purpose cleaners and home remedies. But nothing has ever really worked at removing this thick gunky sludge from cooling system.

The main reason is that engine coolant channels, radiators, hoses and heater matrixes get totally blocked up with high surface tension greasy sludge, that just won’t shift using traditional cleaning chemicals and methods. Hello Peter,

I purchased your Cooling System Oil sludge Remover in June of this year to use in a ford transit where the oil cooler had leaked into the cooling circuit. As instructed I applied the product in 2 lots half a tin each time. the cooling system had already been flushed by the mechanic who replaced the oil cooler, however the coolant still showed substantial oil contamination.
