Is Your Diesel Fuel Pump Seal Leaking? Here’s Why…

As part of an initiative to reduce pollution from diesel engines the government reduced the sulphur content in diesel fuel from 5000 parts per million to less than 50 parts per million.

The production of this new low sulphur diesel started in 2002. The new diesel caused changes in the composition and chemical properties of the fuel, other than lowering its sulphur content… those chemical changes had a detrimental effect on diesel fuel pumps seals.

The most commonly used seal in diesel fuel systems prior to 2002 was nitrile. The nitrile rubber reacted to the changes in the new fuel composition by shrinking them over time causing the pumps to leak.

Most current generation diesel fuel pumps that were manufactured after 2002 had O rings that were made of FKM (also known as Viton) and those seals are not affected by the chemical changes in low sulphur diesel.

However, some OEM manufactures changed from Nitrile to NBR (BUNA-N) seals which has proved not to be as resistant to the new fuel composition as Viton is. So, we are also now seeing relativity new fuel pumps leaking from these seals as well.

How We Solved This Problem To Save You Time And Money Now…

All Nitrile and NBR seals will eventually shrink and subsequently leak… but only a small proportion of the seals chemical composition depletes. Those depleted chemicals are called the volatiles… and they are the bit that had given the seal it’s structural integrity, elasticity and volume.

Those volatiles are made up of a wide range of chemicals, but the major constituents are a group collectively called phenol esters.

The liquid Intelligence 229 formulation contains a combination of those phenol ester additives… and history has proven that these phenol ester additives can rejuvenate dried and hardened nitrile or NBR rubber seals.

So, if the seals and gaskets are not mechanically unsound but just dried and hard…. then there is every chance that the 229 will eliminate a fuel leak caused from seal depletion…

Whilst this type of seal repair is not an exact science most people that use the 229 can expect the seal to stay rejuvenated for years… but this can vary depending on the seals composition and condition. To get the best results Liquid Intelligence 229 is used at one litre per 10 litres of diesel fuel.

It generally takes two to three days to rejuvenate a seal… but can take longer.

However, given that almost every diesel pump with seal depletion can present with different symptoms. If Your Diesel Shows Signs Of Leaking Seals There Are Three Options Available

Option 1

The first and easiest option would be to add Liquid Intelligence 229 to your fuel.

The ester and phenol additives will rejuvenate dried and hardened Nitrile and Viton seals in a diesel fuel pump system within 24 to 48 hours.

As long as the seals are not mechanically unsound but just dried and hard then there is every chance it will eliminate the fuel leak.

A Diesel Leak Repair Can Be As Simple As Adding One Litre Of Liquid Intelligence 229 To Your Fuel Intake.

Liquid Intelligence 229 Is Successfully Used On Diesel Cars, 4WDs, Light Commercials, Semi-Trailers, Stationary Engines (Generators and Pumps) and Boat Engines.

Option 2

Liquid Intelligence 229 Works With Any Diesel Fuel Pump.

The second option is to disconnect the fuel line from the most convenient place between the fuel tank and the pump… put the fuel line into the Liquid Intelligence 229 and then crank the engine over and suck the 229 into the pump.

Once it’s in the pump leave in there for a minimum of 48 hours or as long as possible.

If you would like to recover the 229 to be used again in the future after it has done its job, disconnect the fuel line on the other side of the pump thenand crank it back into the container.

Option 3

Liquid Intelligence 229 Works In Diesel Engines Of Any Size.

The second and hardest option would be to have the fuel pump serviced.

A diesel mechanic may require the vehicle for two days… some models may take a little longer… whilst repairs are performed.

The repair cost can vary dramatically depending on the vehicle. Fuel pump services for a ute or a 4WD is about $900 including labour, whilst trucks, semi’s and diesel equipment can be as much as $900 to $3,500 and sometimes more.

I have an old Nissan 2.7 diesel 4×4

It was dripping diesel from the fuel pump which gradually was getting worse.

I bought your product and did this….

emptied the tank down to about 10 litres ( maybe a bit less ) added 229 and mixed thoroughly with a short but rough drive.

left for 5 days

drove for about 10km and left again for 3 days

added fuel to 1/2 tank drove again 10km left again for 3 days

filled tank and have have used daily since including 2 big trips.
