Cooling System Efficiency Requires a Clean Cooling System
If you are overdue for cooling system maintenance, the deposits have begun to build up. If you had a radiator cleaned out because of deposits, the engine block and head are in the same condition.
Hot spots in the block and head cause engine detonation or ping… and anytime temperatures climb beyond the normal range, the engine is running in the danger zone.
Just a thought……
A fast flush with a 300ml bottle of radiator flush will not remove what it took years and thousands of kilometres to build up… plus, most fast flushes contain acids, which will cause damage to copper, aluminium, brass, and zinc alloys.
How Might Scale Cause Your Overheating?
- Scale can restrict a cooling system’s ability to transfer heat, resulting in elevated engine temperatures.
- Scale one millimetre thick can reduce cooling system heat transfer by 30%.
- Hard water, heat and time can combine to create calcium deposits and corrosion scale in radiators and engine blocks.
- Cooling system water contains various levels of dissolved solids. Minerals like calcium carbonate, magnesium calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, magnesium sulphate and sodium chloride, are all contaminants found in engine cooling systems
- These scale deposits can decrease cooling system efficiency and cause engine overheating.
How Does Liquid Intelligence 239 Work On Your System?
Scale restricts the engines ability to transfer heat resulting in elevated engine temperatures.
This vehicle below had a build up of mineral scale and oxide deposits in its cooling system causing the engine to repeatedly overheat.
Now to to actually see the problem…
a fibre optic camera was inserted into the top tank of the radiator and the water jacket.
Images where taken before and after using the Liquid Intelligence 239 Engine Cooling System Cleaner Kit. The cleaning process took a little more than three hours to complete.
These after images show that Liquid Intelligence 239 dissolved all the ferrous and mineral scale. The treatment restored the efficiency of the entire cooling system back to new.
And the best part was that…
the owner was very happy with the results and reports that the vehicle is now running considerably cooler

A Fascinating Post From
NRG Automotive Repairs. They are located at: 30 Antoine St, Rydalmere NSW 2116 Is Coolant Really Necessary?Absolutely Yes… Here’s Why:We’ve noticed recently that simple coolant products are being left out of engines, instead guys are running tap water. Sounds ok, right? I mean, what’s the worst that could happen??? I hope this post will give you a bit of an idea of the drama and damage that NO COOLANT could do to your engine, not just regarding boiling and freezing temperatures, but corrosion and its effects. Oxidisation is a silent killer for your engine. Not only does it sludge up the system, it blocks radiators and coats internal galleys; reducing the heat exchange potential of the cooling system. In really bad cases it can rot the water pump impeller blades to nothing… I kid you not, we had a car came in last year like that! All this corrosion will damage and destroy both your engine and bank account in equal measure, so how do we fix this? Well, no one will be able to clean the system back to the way it was made, but we can get close. We use the Liquid intelligence Engine Cooling Systems Cleaner and Conditioner. This is a two part cleaning powder and conditioner used to flush the system. First we mix up part A, fill and bleed then alternately run and rest the engine every 10 minutes over a 3 hour period, drain and flush the system thoroughly, then mix up part B, run for 20 minutes and leave in the system for 12 hours then rinse. With the flush water coming through clean, we fill with the correct mix of coolant. Bear in mind that oxidisation corrodes the system from the inside, cleaning the system can uncover damage previously unseen. The following pictures cover the cleaning process and show the vile mess that is removed. |

Soluble Oil Is Great But It Wasn’t Perfect… So We Made It Better… Here’s How:
Dear Reader,I’ve been manufacturing radiator coolants for about forty years. And I have always had this fascination of using an oil and water emulsion (soluble oil) as a base for radiator coolant.
I can’t imagine anything better for protecting cast iron engine blocks from corrosion, than an oily emulsion. However corrosion protection is just one part of a coolants requirements. But the soluble oil base was a interesting starting point for further experimenting and product development . Quite literally our minds went into overdrive and we were able to add all sorts synergy elements to the soluble oil. As you can see from our laboratory testing, Liquid Intelligence 600 has exceeded all performance limits of very non-glycol based coolant. And the finished reformulation now includes six good reasons why this unique oily coolant makes perfect sense, specifically when used in vintage or classic car. Regards, Peter Maher |
One of the most prevalent design faults in Vintage and Veteran vehicles involves the collective inadequacies of their cooling systems, making them especially prone to overheating issues in today’s traffic.
The unique thermodynamic properties of Liquid Intelligence 600 Coolant can compensate for those original design faults and eliminate most of their common overheating issues… Here’s how it works.
Issue 1: Many vintage and veteran vehicles have small inadequate water pumps with very low flow rates and are notorious for constantly overheating. Whilst the low flow rate water pumps may have been more than adequate in countries where half the year can be in sub zero temperatures, they don’t seem to work terribly well with summer heat in Australia.
Solution:
Vintage cooling systems require a high thermal conductivity coolant to compensate for their low volume circulation rates.
Because the thermal conductivity of a coolant is the measure of its ability to transfer heat over a given flow rate. The higher the thermal conductivity the less flow rate is required to remove the same amount of heat when compared to coolant with a lower level of thermal conductivity.
Liquid Intelligence 600 has more than twice the thermal conductivity of normal glycol/water based coolants, making it ideal to be used in vintage cooling systems.
It’s Thermal Conductivity is rated at 0.609W/m K whilst glycol based coolants are rated at about 0.300W/m K.
“HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY” Explained using a simple analogyThe Analogy: If you could imagine a little man with a bucket whose sole purpose in life was to keep a car running cool. To do so he needs to continually collect buckets of hot coolant from the engine and dump them through the radiator to maintain the vehicles correct running temperature. The higher the thermal conductivity of his coolant the less flow rate or work the little man has to do when compared to coolant with a lower level of thermal conductivity. This is a modern cooling system containing normal glycol based coolant. Whilst glycol can increase the boiling point of a coolant it has a low heat transfer efficiency (low thermal conductivity). So, to compensate for the lack of heat transfer efficiency our little man has to run to increase the flow rate between the radiator and engine to maintain the vehicles correct running temperature. And of course, this is easily achieved in a modern cooling system with very efficient high flow rate water pumps. This is a vintage cooling system that was designed in a bygone era when todays traffic conditions could never have been imagined. They generally all had inefficient low flow rate water pumps. To describe those old inefficient cooling system as an analogy. We have show our little man moving slowly between the engine and radiator dumping his buckets of hot coolant. |
Issue 2: Overheating Vintage and Veteran Cars Require A Coolant With Higher Heat Transfer Characteristics
Solution: The Specific Heat of Liquid Intelligence 600 is @ 4·2 joule/gram °C
The exceptional thermodynamic properties of Liquid Intelligence 600 make it a very effective engine coolant. Even though the boiling point is lower than some traditional glycol based coolants the heat transfer characteristics are at least 20% higher. Thus, the engine operating temperatures in older cooling systems of vintage and veteran cars often run much cooler when using it, particularly on those very hot days.
Issue 3: Overheating Vintage and Veteran Cars Require A Coolant With Low Viscosity Characteristics
Solution: The Viscosity of Liquid Intelligence 600 is 0.652 @ 40°C and 0.354 @ 85°C
The ultra-low viscosity of Liquid Intelligence 600 reduces flow resistance and maximizers fluid velocity aiding its overall heat transferring properties.
Issue 4: We at Liquid Intelligence Always Aim To Produce A Coolant That Is Low Toxicity and Is Environmentally Friendly Where Possible
Solution: The Liquid Intelligence 600 has Low Toxicity and is Environmentally Friendly
NON-DANGEROUS GOODS. According to the WHS Regulations and the ADG Code. Not considered to be toxic for human and animals.
Issue 5: Galvanic Corrosion or Electrolysis: The Silent Killer In A Cooling System
Galvanic Corrosion (electrolysis) occurs when an Anode Metal is in contact with a Cathode Metal through a Conductive Electrolyte Solution (radiator coolant).
Anode Metals are most at risk to corrode, and are least resistant to galvanic corrosion attack.
Note: this is the short list of anode metals commonly found in vintage automotive cooling systems;
Cadmium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Zinc, Steel/Iron, Cast Iron, Lead, Solder, Tin and Nickel.
Cathode Metals are least at risk of galvanic corrosion attack.
Note: this is the short list of cathode metals commonly found in vintage automotive cooling systems;
Nickel ,Brass, Copper and Bronze.
Conductive Electrolyte Solution.
The conductivity of an electrolyte solution is a measure of its ability to conduct electricity. And the electrical conductivity is linked directly to the total amounts of dissolved solids (T.D.S.) in the electrolyte solution.
Radiator coolants are a electrolyte solution because they have high levels of corrosion inhibitors as T.D.S or dissolved solids. So coolants are acting as both the catalyst and the conductor to promote galvanic corrosion between the anode and cathode metal found in a vintage cooling system.
As an example a vintage copper-brass radiator contains copper, brass, and a lead/tin solder. Copper and brass are cathode metals whilst solder is a anode metal. The solder makes a copper-brass radiator more susceptible to galvanic corrosion. When galvanic corrosion does occur, the solder holding the copper-brass core and tanks together will deteriorate creating leaks and weak spots within the radiator core. Every vintage vehicle’s cooling systems have components that are made from both anode and cathode metals and they are all at significant risk from galvanic corrosion.
Solution: Liquid Intelligence 600 has 134 times less chemical conductivity than radiator water containing a 5% solution of corrosion inhibitor. And it has 75 times less conductive than a 50/50 solution of coolant containing glycol and water. Plus, it has 19 times less conductive than Sydney tap water. Thus, the extremely low electrical conductivity of Liquid Intelligence 600 prevents or greatly reduces damage caused by galvanic corrosion.
Lab Test Results Of The Superior Almost Zero Electrical Conductivity Of Liquid Intelligence 600 This reading of 0.1 mS/cm is better than anything else out there… in fact it is 134 times less chemical conductivity than radiator water containing a 5% solution of corrosion inhibitor. |
|
Issue 6: Vintage and Veteran cooling systems require suitable protection from corrosion. Their cooling systems contain Copper, Solder, Brass, Steel, Cast Iron and Cast Aluminium all of which are prone to various types of corrosion.
Liquid Intelligence 600 Coolant meets or exceeds the specifications set out by Standards Association of Australia for Engine Cooling Systems Testing Methods AS 2108.2004 Type B.
The Standards Association of Australia enjoys the active cooperation of the Commonwealth and State Governments of Australia and of the Australian Automotive Industry. The Australian Coolant Test Methods AS 2108.2004 Type B mirrors the Master Japanese Standards the British Standards the American Standards and most OEM Coolant Standards. And as such Liquid Intelligence 600 also complies with all their technical specification and standards.
The corrosion inhibitors used in the Liquid Intelligence 600 formulation is shown here being tested to the ASTM D-1384 Standard (Standard Test Method for Corrosion Test for Engine Coolants in Glassware).
In this test the Liquid Intelligence 600 coolant sample is diluted with “corrosive water” i.e water that has 100ppm of sulphate, chloride and bicarbonate ion added to it. The purpose of the dilution with corrosive water is to place the coolant under stress throughout the test. The sample is then placed in an experimental apparatus with metal coupons (each coupon being made of a metal that is found in a cooling system) and then boiled for 14 days. At the end of this time the corrosion that has occurred on the metal coupons is determined by the weight loss of each coupon. This test is repeated three times for verification.
Solution: The Liquid Intelligence 600 Exceeds the AS2108.2004 Australian Coolant Standards
