What Bad Things Happen To Diesel Fuel In Cold Weather?
Diesel Fuel is Prone to Developing Small Hard Crystals of Wax at 0°C or Below.

Diesel fuel is prone to waxing or gelling in cold weather; both are terms for the solidification of diesel oil into a partially crystalline state. Most diesel fuel begin to develop solid wax particles at -5°C giving it a cloudy appearance. The presence of solidified waxes thickens the oil and clogs fuel filters and injectors in engines. The crystals build up in the fuel line (especially in fuel filters) until the engine is starved of fuel, causing it to stop running.
The Cold Filter Plugging Point or (CFPP) of diesel fuel is based on a standardized test that indicates the rate at which diesel fuel will flow through a standardized filtration device in a specified length of time when cooled under certain conditions.
Liquid Intelligence 203 Cold Flow Improver Additive will allow diesel engines to continue to operate in cold weather conditions. The Liquid Intelligence 203 additive will not prevent the diesel from developing microfine wax particles but it will prevent them from collecting together to form larger wax flakes that can clog up the fuel filter. Liquid Intelligence 203 inhibits and modifies wax crystal growth, offering effective cold flow management for diesel fuels.
Best results for reducing cold filter plugging are achieved when Liquid Intelligence 203 is used at the following treat rates.
- 1 litre of Liquid Intelligence 203 to 500 litres of diesel fuel is required in the coldest areas such as the Snowy Mountains.
- 1 litre of Liquid Intelligence 203 to 1000 litres is acceptable in all other areas of Australia.
